Ph.D. Student Position in Semantic Web, Linked Data and Web of Things

Our new established Chair of Technical Information Systems at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg was founded in 2018. We are a young modern research group focusing on semantic technologies to bring information and communication technologies of the future into today’s world.

We can offer the following position:

Computer Science: * Ph.D. Student Position in Information Systems * Full time

Responsibilities:

The general context of the thesis is Semantic Web and Linked Data, with applications in the Internet of Things and Cyber-Physical Systems. The candidate will carry out research into how core Web principles like hyperlinks and hypermedia control can be leveraged to design self-organizing systems composed of sensing and actuating agents. Both simulated and real-world setups will be available for experiments. The candidate will get the opportunity to work with a variety of computing platforms, from micro-controllers to high-end server racks. Emphasis will be put on implementation and practical aspects of research, provided rigorous experimental design and analysis. The candidate may also get involved in teaching activities on Linked Data-related topics.

Qualification – required:

Master’s degree in Computer Science or similar field (software engineering, medical engineering, information and communication science, applied mathematics, etc.) and fluency in English are required.

Qualification – desired:

Solid knowledge of the object-oriented design principles and programming experience in Java, Python or similar languages are expected. The candidate should be familiar with Unix/GNU Linux environments and have basic system administration skills. Basic knowledge of Semantic Web technologies (RDF, SPARQL) is also welcome.
